Most of Mr Treasure Hunt’s events now incorporate a combination of Real-Life clues and Augmented Reality clues. Whether a clue is labeled as Real-Life or Augmented Reality (AR), your team’s first goal is to solve the clue or puzzle which will reveal a location in your hunt area.
The clue will contain a question that can only be answered either at the site of a Real-Life clue location, or in the Augmented Reality message which pops up on your screen. Simply write the solution to the clue question in the clue package and move on to another clue.
Real-Life Clues:
In a Real-Life clue, your team will be looking for an object, like a plaque, artwork, statue, for example, which is a permanent (and real-life!) part of the neighborhood. An example might be this plaque in Chinatown:
Once you find a Real-Life clue solution, you’re answering the question in your clue package about that object. Write that answer in your clue package.
Augmented Reality Clues:
In the case of an Augmented Reality clue, teams will head to the location they solved, and rather than look for a specific object, they will be directed in the clue to open their Augmented Reality app (which they will download prior to the event). They tap a button and, assuming they are within 20 or so meters of the correct location, an image and message will pop up on your screen. These images and messages offer interesting bits of historic or cultural interest about the area you’re exploring.
In the video example below, you have solved a clue in the PRESIDIO treasure hunt. You open the app and click PRESIDIO and, because you’re near the AR marker, the app tells you to tap the screen to reveal the AR message. You then get the image of the Golden Gate Bridge and the fun fact that the bridge was originally going to be painted yellow and black, which will be the answer to the question in your clue package.
Our Augmented Reality app offers flexibility on where the markers are placed and what message appears. We’d love to customize an event for YOUR group!
